The Secret to Belting for Classical Singers
Being a classically trained singer is an accomplishment to be proud of. It takes time, energy, tenacity, and grit. As a classical singer, your skills are worth celebrating.
But if you’re anything like me, you did all this training and realized the rumors aren’t true…..classical singing does NOT prepare you for any style of singing. And let’s be honest, pop and musical theatre are the most in-demand styles currently.
These styles are a different skill than classical singing and require you to BELT!
Belting is a term that strikes terror into the souls of most classical singers, and it’s for a good reason. Belting is a SKILL and it is not an easy one. It can be trained, but it takes work and can be messy at the beginning. It also challenges you to lean into skills and tactics that are not appropriate for classical singing. Given the prejudice against commercial technique that is only recently starting to dissipate, this frequently results in very valid fear!
This is where I come in (and this training)!
My name is JoAnne and I am a classically trained soprano turned belter. I have a Master’s in Vocal Pedagogy and am very passionate about using voice science and pedagogy as the foundation for how we sing. This is how we find freedom, ease, and longevity in belting longterm.
This training is a small taste of how you can learn healthy belting as a classical singer. Are you ready to start unleashing your voice and creating new opportunities for yourself as a singer?
